The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a tenure stream position (at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level) in Ecology and Conservation, to begin July 1, 2011. The successful applicant must have a strong publication record, evidence of a sustained and externally funded research program, and a proven commitment to graduate student supervision and training. Candidates with an active field program are especially encouraged to apply. The incumbent will be expected to take a leadership role in a planned Professional Master’s graduate program in Conservation and Biodiversity. Assistant Professor in Cell Biology

The Department of Biological Sciences, University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a tenure stream position in Cell Biology. The position is at the rank of Assistant Professor and begins July 1, 2011. The successful applicant will be expected to establish a strong, externally funded research program and to supervise graduate students. Candidates with demonstrated expertise in the cell biology of innate immunity are especially encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates whose activities will complement and strengthen a “Cells and Infection” research cluster within the department. The department has biosafety level II laboratory containment facilities and a comprehensive light and electron microscopy imaging facility that has been recently upgraded to operate with live-cell and in vivo imaging capacity and equipped with state-of-the-art multiphoton, confocal endoscope, spinning disk and single-particle tracking microscopes, as well as laser tweezers/scissors micro-manipulation technology. The University of Toronto is an international leader in biological research and education and the Department of Biological Sciences enjoys strong ties to other units within the University. Applicants should have postdoctoral experience and strong evidence of excellence in research.

The Department of Cell & Systems Biology at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure track faculty position to be appointed at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning July 1, 2011.

We are interested in outstanding candidates that complement existing strengths in the department in the areas of genomics, plant and microbial biology, cell and developmental biology, and neurosciences using high-throughput approaches or gene/protein network analyses with genomic, proteomic, or advanced cell biological and imaging tools. The Department of Biology at Saint Mary's University invites applications for a full time appointment at the rank of Lecturer, effective July 1, 2011. The successful applicant will teach primarily at the 1000- and 2000- level with the opportunity to teach at the 3000- and 4000- level dependent on department needs and expertise of the candidate. Ideally, the candidate will have expertise in the area of Animal Biology and will be able to make meaningful teaching contributions in our pre-health curriculum track, but exceptional candidates with teaching expertise in other areas that complement existing teaching expertise will be considered. As this position places limited emphasis on biological research the ideal candidate will have a strong interest in pedagogy, be dedicated to improving student education and have demonstrated excellence in teaching. Service activities associated with this position will relate to coordination of some teaching activities and outreach. Minimum qualification for the position is a M.Sc. or equivalent.

Instructor – Molecular Biology

Applications are invited for a three-year term position at the level of Instructor, in the Department of Biology at Carleton University. We are interested in candidates with expertise in the areas of Molecular Biology, Cell Physiology, and/or Microbiology.

The successful candidate will normally have a Ph.D. and will have demonstrated excellence and commitment in teaching in an appropriate area. The primary duties of the instructor are to teach undergraduate courses in Introductory Biology, and in Microbiology, Genetics, and/or Physiology. The instructor would also participate in the administration of the Integrated Science program at Carleton University.

The Department of Biology has research strengths in most areas of biology as well as in biochemistry. The Department offers a variety of undergraduate honours programs in Biology, and contributes to several joint programs in the Faculty of Science. The Department also offers graduate programs in Biology at the M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels. Carleton University is located in Ottawa, the capital of Canada and a major center of advanced technology research and development.
